Climbing up the coporate ladder.
We all know, life has it's own agenda and it never goes as planned. In highschool, I set out to become a Human Resources professional and knew exactly how to get there from day one. I thought I was set. I had a path to follow and lots of guidance and I just made up my mind that that's what I wanted to do. I took all the necessary courses in secondary school, got decent grades, and applied to post secondary. I planned my entire professional career on the University I had chosen and didn't even bother to come up with a plan B.
Everything changed when I didn't get in. Either I wasn't good enough, or my marks weren't good enough - whatever it was, I didn't get in. Sad. I know. I applied to Colleges. I got in. Hurrah. So okay, the world was not over. My dream of becoming and HR Manager wasn't completely out of reach. I went with that and continued along my path. I was a little broken but still determined as ever. I still had the opportunity to get to my destination but it would take a little longer and I was okay with that. For the two years I was in College, I enjoyed my time immensely! Then things started to change. As I continued to study Human Resources Management, I realised it wasn't for me. Don't get me wrong. It's a great profession (the pay is not too bad either!) but I just knew, it wasn't for me. I needed to find myself and explore other options - so I quit school and started to work full time. I was much happier and had the world at my disposal!
While I was in high school, Isurprisingly managed to hold a part-time job at a clinic, at the tender age of 15 (almost 16) processing x-rays and doing paper work. After sometime, I moved into reception where I spent the most time at this post till now. I've worked really hard these last few years, and even more so within the last year. I've pulled up my big girl pants, taken on more responsibility and as a result gained more confidence in my work. The change I've undergone is unbelievable! I used to be shy and timid, I even ran away from responsibility and never took initiative at work. I never wanted to be involved with anything more than I had to be. Now, I have much more confidence, I actually know what I'm talking about, I understand more and I'm not afraid to stand up for myself. I guess wisdom (HAHA!) really does come with age; and regardless, it has really shown in my work.
I am now 22 years old, still at the same clinic and have been offered a job (within the company) at a higher post or in other words i'm slowly climbing up the (corporate) ladder. I'll quit beating around the bush.... I'VE BEEN PROMOTED! Say whaaaaa?! It took me some time to get to this point, but alas I'm here! There are still some details to be cleared up and everything is still in the beginning stages but I assume by November I will be starting my new position. I'm super excited, not to mention eager as well! Essentially, the moral of the story is: you in fact don't need a certificate from a fancy university to get a good job. Just make hard work, perseverance and patience your best friends and everything should fall into place.
