The Eyebrow Problem

Hello 'ellas! If you haven't already, you may have realised that I blog about a variety of different things; sometimes beauty, sometimes life related happenings and sometimes complete and utter randomness (Haha! I hope you don't mind)!  Some of you may find this next topic a little humorous and/or just completely weird but I need to get this out of my system so please bear with me!

Since the last few years or so, I've been struggling with the shape and overall fullness of my eyebrows.... I know what you are thinking: Saf, how superficial of you! People are starving in parts of the world and you are worried about your eyebrows!?! I'm sorry! This is one of my #firstworldproblems!

My eyebrows are too thin for my liking and do nothing for my face. To be completely honest, it's my own fault; I decided at age 13 or 14 that I was the smartest thing ever and I could make my own decisions. How wrong I was! My biggest critic, (my Mum) is one of those "natural beauty" kind of people and completely disapproved of my premature hair removal. She often told me my eyebrows were "nice the way they were" and "there is no need for you to get them done!". I thought she was completely blind or something, to me my eyebrows were HUGE bushy caterpillars! I took matters into my own hands, marched over to my local salon and got my eyebrows professionally threaded. I was gleaming with pride. Now at 21, I want to kick my 13 year old self in the arse so hard. What was I thinking?!? The two major mistakes that I made: 1) getting them done too thin and 2) not consistent with where I had them done, meaning I'd hop around to different places to have them done, by different people. BIG no-no! I will forever regret that because now my brows are thin, sparse and shapeless. Fab.

So that was my brow story, I'm sure it made you shead a tear or two, tragic isn't it? Anyway! I've decided to throw in the towel, pull up my pants and stick to my guns (if you will) and do something about my unruly brows! I'm going to grow them out. Oh you poor poor people. How bad I feel for you lot out there who have to see those unruly bad boys! I'd like them to be a little more full like Lilly Collins' (below), not going to happen, and a little more structured in shape like Lilly's, also not going to happen. Sighs. I can dream ... right?

Maybe I'll update as I go along or is that just creepy?! ...... okay, maybe I won't.
Wish me luck, let's see how this goes!

P.S. I realize my photo's a bit rubbish but the brows were TOO unruly upclose, eeeek!

  1. First of all, love the new layout! I think this one is very easy to use & accesible.
About the brows, I hear ya! I too started threading when I was 12-13 (not too regularly then) because I started to get conscious about a slight monobrow I had. My mom's are incredibly sparse & she doesn't thread because she's not really into beauty stuff (especially ones that cause pain!).
I'm pretty sure my brow shape is a bit ruined because I did the same things as you. I just go to random parlors & my only instructions to them are to leave it thick & to remove all of the monobrow (some Indians leave it as they think it's lucky!)
I wish there was more awareness about maintaining a nice brow shape here, but there really isn't. Many women still prefer REALLY thin eyebrows, & I know it's mean but that always makes me think of female pornstars. It's a generally very vampy, unflattering look :@
Now I wish I had brows like Brooke Shields or Jennifer Connely. *_*
But I must say that I really like your eyebrows right now (not just saying!) I always love naturally arched eyebrows over flat ones. Growing them out is surely the way to go. If you're anything like me you'll want to hide from any photos (I'm obsessive about getting mine done on vacation because of photos!) but the end result will be worth it. Good luck & keep us updated! :)

    1. Magali, you are a doll! I'm so glad you like the new layout! I was just playing around with it for a while and decided to try it out and see how it went; I'm liking it too!

My mum is smart about how she gets them done, she is very firm with the parlour ladies about how she wants her brows to be - something I should've touched on ... Also, she was right when she said that I shouldn't do mine until I turned 18 - but I'm a rebel and I thought I knew better! :P

I hate how my shape is ruined. It really makes me sad, especially because I can hardly expect the hair (even after completely growing them out) to grow back the same way...

I completely agree! I wish there was more awareness about brow maintenance. Your comment about the female pornstars is right on and made me laugh! HAHAHAHHA! Brook shields - yes! Jennifer Connelly, I've never really paid any attention to ... I'll def check hers out ;)

I don't know how you can say you like mine, eeek! *hides face* I like a nice arch too, sometimes "flat" brows look funny! Oh, I'm going to be staying away from photos if I can .... or taking less close up shots!

I'm already sick of how they look... I hate going out in public like this - very untidy! Hahah! Glad you don't find it weird that I posted about this, I will update since you are actually interested!

      THANK YOU! Big hug!
